L'École polytechnique, fréquemment appelée Polytechnique et surnommée en France l’« X », est une école d’ingénieurs française fondée en 1794. Ayant le statut d’établissement public d'enseignement et de recherche placé sous la tutelle du ministère de la Défense, elle est membre fondateur depuis 2007 de ParisTech, l'un des pôles de recherche et d'enseignement supérieur français. Jouissant d'un grand prestige dans l'enseignement supérieur en France, l'École polytechnique est souvent associée à la sélectivité et à l'excellence académique. Ses élèves, anciens élèves et diplômés sont appelés « polytechniciens » ou « Polytechniciens » et surnommés « X ».
