Ranavalona II est une reine malgache née en 1829 à Tananarive et décédée en 1883. Elle est l'épouse de Rainilaiarivony.

Je dirais que la reine avait environ 45 ans, avec un teint olive foncé, et un visage plein de gentillesse et de bienveillance. Elle avait beaucoup d'allure, et était vêtue d'une robe de taffetas changeant gris, et un lamba de soie tombait négligemment de ses épaules. Ses cheveux étaient noirs et magnifiquement arrangés ; « elle ne portait pas de couronne », mais de la chevelure au sommet de sa tête pendait une longue et fine chaîne en or se terminant par un pompon en or, que seule la reine est autorisée à porter.

She was very queenly, and dressed in a gray shot-silk dress, and a silk lamba fell negligently from her shoulders. Her hair was black, and beautifully arranged; 'crown she did not wear', but from the hair at the top of her head there depended the long fine gold chain ending in a gold tassel, which only the queen can wear.
